Bootsy free day
Don't worry, he'll most likely be back tomorrow.
Friends dave and Katie came out to see the kitten today then we went off for a walk. Dave is an archaeologist so we thought we'd take him off to see the folly down by Hopetoun House. He'd seen it in photos before but never in the flesh.
He pointed out that it was quite a strange structure because it's a reall mish-mash of older more practical looking structure and newer dress stuff. The older structure had traces of door and window arches in it while the newer part of the structure, which was made out of dress stone with some fancy carving just didn't seem to fit.
From what we saw I hazzarded a guess that tehre had possibly been some sort of maritime watch tower there which predated Hopetoun. By the time Hopetoun was built it was possibly a ruin and, as was the fashion at the time when Hopetoun was built it was turned into a folly, with the dress stone being added to try and make it look like it had been a romantic castle at some point. I'll have to do some investigation and see if I'm at all close to the mark. This could be a job for Blaeus Atlas.
The other photo which was a candidate for today was this one of Katie, Roz and Dave walking back from the folly, but I think I over processed it.
