a-lumen-um siding
place: TAW office, 2681 Hastings St E (CAN)
mood: determined
By the side of the TAW headquarters is a narrow corridor that provides a small strip of pathway for light and shadow to walk together.
Pale blue hues from the nearly cloudless sky reflect off the shiny aluminum siding, enhancing the oatmeal-beige folds of metal with a cool toned gradient; perhaps this is called de-neutralization? As it travels down the panelling, the projected light blue is tinted by the streaming rays of sunshine and fades to an even lighter, muted pastel.
On the opposite side of the alleyway, the bright sunlight showers the stoneface with white, which becomes more intense as your eye follows the length of the wall to the bottom edge of the photograph. At the opposite end of the blinding whiteness, the mellow-yellow tan colour gets paired up with its darkened counterpart further down the wall.
Playing up the contrast are shadows that creep along the left and right edges, and they are paired side by side with the light in blocks and stripes. The deep brown metal bars visually elongate and extend the height of the walls, but they also enhance the colour contrast in this photograph by being in the foreground of a very cool blue sky.
Who knew this dim and dingy corridor could look this good?
