Clear night

It was another beautiful crisp and clear night in Christchurch. I love clear nights here as there is a lot less light polution than i'm used to back in Scotland. There are so many stars visible in the sky. Does anyone know what the really bright star near the moon is in this picture? I'm sorry but i'm not much of an astronomer!
