giant rubber crabs taking over the mountains

Took the dog for a walk today and came across this in the middle of the path.
A rubber cats eye casing. Nothing unusual in that... but when it's on the top of a mountain, 8 miles from the nearest road with catseyes, then it becomes slightly odd.
