Deep Thoughts.....
Do you feel honored that my daughter shares your middle name?
Yes because it's Grandma's middle name and now she gets to share that with us.
Think that you can still sing the lyrics to 'Barbie & The Rockers'?
I can.
(Laughs) No.
Try it.
Oh I can't. But I can sing 'My name is zoom and I live on the moon, and I came down to earth just to sing you this tune...'
Growing up, what was my most annoying trait?
Being in my space early in the morning. Always happy and always right in my face. You'd have all the bathroom counter space too. Leaving me with only an inch. That's probably why I had to tackle you that one morning.
Aah yes. And how did that make you feel?
Great!!! We were in high school. Mom had to break us up. I was so mad at you I jumped on you. I just wanted you to leave me alone. You started screaming for Mom. It wasn't one of my finest moments but it needed to happen.
True. I did gain a lot of respect for you that day.
And maybe some fear?
Maybe. Okay, what did you like most about me?
Your protectiveness. You were very protective of me. If anyone ever slighted me, you were right there.
Like when I tried to intimidate your mean friend who worked at the video store by not saying, "thank you" after I rented a movie from her?
(Both laughing at this) Oh yeah, it didn't matter where we were, you always stuck up for me.
You only liked to eat bean burritos and garbanzo's growing up. Have your widened your diet since then?
My taste buds have matured to fine wines.....oh and I love Mom's cooking now. Either I was just crazy as a child or Mom's cooking has gotten better.
When was the turning point in our relationship when we actually became like friends?
Your freshman year in college. I visited you in the dorms and we had so much fun together. Plus, I finally had my own space in the mornings at home.
I've talked a lot about Grandma on blip. Can you add to the impact that she made in our lives?
The big thing about Grandma was that I always heard how similar I was to her. I walked like her. Laughed like her. Stood like her. I look like her in her old photographs. She was always happy and bubbly and spoke her mind. She'd stand up for herself. Remember that time in Hawaii when that guy took our parking space? And I remember walking side by side with her on that trip and everyone else was walking behind us. They were all saying how similar we looked. I remember feeling so proud to be compared to Grandma.
My heart hurts some days I miss her so bad.
Yeah.
And now that we are so extremely close as adults, do you know how much I love you?
Yes. Do you know how much I love you?
Yes.
And you're still my biggest protector. You've got my back. No matter what.
And I always will.
