Big sky
We said farewell to Lake Superior this morning and I snapped this final shot before saying goodbye. The sky pregnant and brooding, ripe to burst....
With the rising of the sun the clouds burned away though as we drove East on our last leg of our loop. Along the way we cut through old sand backroads amidst ancient logged forest, stopped for breakfast at a very strange back woods diner in the UP, passed over the fabled Fox River, and eventually came to the white breakers of Lake Michigan crossing over the straights of Mackinaw back into Michigan's lower peninsula. Lake Superior full circle!
To celebrate we went to a grand music festival! Every summer for the past year Blissfest is held in the fields of a farm near the tiny town of Biss in Upper Michigan. It is an increasingly popular folk and world music festival that attracts all sorts of interesting folk. I've never been able to make it since I leave in the spring, but this time I finally got a taste with all my friends. Becca and I listened to fantastic music, danced and sang with a wonderful group of friends, ate yummy food, and stayed up late into the night celebrating under the starlight.
WooHOO! Pure bliss.
