Down't pit
Went to the Orbey market which turned out to be a fruit and veg stall, a flower stall and a butcher's van. Hmm. Not really what we'd hoped for. Still, the fruit and veg guy was good, giving free bananas to the kids and free parsley to the adults (pour les tomatoes). After market, we sent the kids down the mines at a museum near Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. The display is a bit rubbish. Just static exhibits with a soundtrack alleging to be from the journal of a mine owner played on one of those sticks that you key in numbers and listen. But you get a nice cool wander down in the mines for an hour, which almost makes up for the crap exhibition and the fact that we couldn't understand a single word the guide was saying (although to be fair, we were warned that it was all in French after we'd demonstrated alarmingly poor language skills just paying to get in).
On the way back we went to the Intermarché to stock up, having been warned that Bastille day is a complete shut down.
