View from Carman Hill

The Firth of Clyde in the background With the Cowal peninsula furthest away where the town of Dunoon holds the famous "Cowal Gathering" every August.
In the centre is the village of Kilcreggan at the entrance to the Gareloch where the Naval submarine base is situated.
In the centre left is Gourock where the ferries leave for the Western Isles
When I was a lad this view would have been full of ships anchored off Greenock waiting for a berth to drop off sugar for the Tate and Lyle factory,Tobacco for Glasgow, and refill with Scotland's most famous export.
Younger people find it hard to believe that the clyde was one of the busiest shipping routes in the world
The famous River Clyde
