Changing

There's an old island saying: "Red sky in the morn, shepherd's long johns on"... you need an Orkney accent to make 'morn' and 'on' rhyme.

The weather is changing, has changed. Right now we're enveloped in warm grey mist. Earlier this morning, taking Appendix Child to her ferry in Stromness (school drama trip for the seniors to Edinburgh - she was passed fit by the doctor yesterday after much anxious nailbiting), the sky was milky and pink and the cloud patterns stupdendous.

This is a view from the passenger seat on the road north from South Ronaldsay to Kirkwall, looking across to the Hoy Hills. They were clothed in this ethereal pink light as if dawn were just breaking over them, though it was past 10am. No touching up/tinting's been done.

I hope the shepherd is wrong and stews in his long johns all this week.
