Girona
This beautiful golden ruby encrusted salamander was one of many treasures retrieved from the Spanish Armada galleon The Girona off the Irish coast. It sank with the loss of all bar 5 of the 1500 souls on board. It was seriously overloaded and the weight of the cannon balls alone is vast. The entire collection now resides in The Ulster Museum in Belfast a good way to blow off the night before. There was some amazing things to see not least the history of Ireland section which went right up to the St Andrews Agreement. Fascinating
