Chilling in the crypt

Another trip to Aachen today to pick up more building supplies at the DIY store. It was very hot. I don't like the heat, despite the fact that I come from a tropical country. So when we got to the city centre, I ducked into the Aachen cathedral to cool down for a few minutes.

It was nice and cool in the crypt. Not many people seem to go there. Perhaps they find it spooky. Ghosts and spirits don't frighten me, not that I met any today. I prefer the peace and quiet of the crypt compared to the busy train station feel of the main part of the cathedral with so many tourists milling about. Can't help wondering if these might be freemason symbols on the crypt cover. Does anyone know?
