Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Last Night Together

This evening we gathered for dinner to celebrate our great-grandson Tristan and granddaughter Desiree on their last night with us. We ate at Wahoo's Tacos, which is a favorite casual dining place for our entire family.

We had lots of fun and we all avoided mentioning that tomorrow is the day they fly home to Oklahoma. None of us want them to go.

Our daughter Dede and her husband John love Tristan like he is their own grandson. Dede & John took care of Desiree when she was a little girl and her mom and dad (our son) were separating and eventually divorcing. The three cousins--Ashly, Desiree, Emerson--have been more like siblings than cousins. This evening Ashly was not with us because she is taking an evening summer school class. The two photos on the bottom row display four generations of the "Fun" family -- Grandpa Fun, daughter Fun, granddaughter Fun, and great grandson Fun.

Tristan and Des stayed overnight Sunday at Dede & John's home. Tristan absolutely adores Emerson. Today Emerson pulled some of the toys from his childhood out of the closet and Tristan had a blast playing with them, especially the Legos. They also spent some of the afternoon playing in the pool.

After dinner it was time to say goodbye and Tristan and Des came home with us to pack their suitcases and prepare for tomorrow's departure. I think our daughter is going to come here early in the morning before reporting to work to have coffee with us. She is having a tough time letting them go, so when she discovered that their plane doesn't leave till early afternoon, she said she'd like spend time with us in the morning.

Tomorrow is going to be a gut-wretching day. I hate saying goodbye, but saying it to these two will be extremely tough.

Good night from Southern California.
