Haar!

Variants of the term include har, hare, harl, harr, hoar and the origin may be Saxon. Sometimes it is (especially in Northumberland) referred to as a Sea Fret.

It is the curse of Edinburgh summers. You can watch it rolling up the Forth. When it hits you the temperature falls 10 degrees (no exaggeration - I once watched it on the car external temperature gauge). And it stays for three days.

Today it came and I drove on the way home to the top of Blackford Hill. I had a choice of golfers playing through the mist, or the still present construction tent over the Royal Observatory Building. Another day for that - but this shot, dreich, gray and unenticing is just so typical of a haar day in Edinburgh. They used to talk about a Typhoon Saturday in Hong Kong - at least there was a bit of activity then!
