"Chick-a-dee-dee"
Chickadee, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803-1882
Then piped a tiny voice hard by,
Gay and polite, a cheerful cry,
"Chick-a-dee-dee!" a saucy note
Out of sound heart and merry throat
As if it said, "Good day, good sir!
Fine afternoon, old passenger!
Happy to meet you in these places
Where January brings few faces."
This is a young Black Capped Chickadee, the tiny yellow at the corner of the beak gives away his youth. I had so many really sweet shots as he drilled open the sunflower seed stll held here between his feet, it was a hard choice. I had my 200mm lens stuck right into the little ornamental maple, but he didn't seem to notice. They are common, charming, all season birds here, actually our official State Bird. Two cats appeared from nowhere in the house when I played the linked video!
Thanks for all the favorites and comments on my cheeky peanut packin' chipmunk yesterday, the lens practically touched him also. They are all waiting for their close-up i guess!
