'6 Times'

On a walk to the galleries today I encountered the first of Antony Gormley's statues that have been installed around Edinburgh. Gormley described these as being about the relationship between nature and culture. This first chap is a full length statue 'embedded in the urban condition'. He certainly seemed to be!

The next 4 are situated 'in' the water of Leith and myself and a few fellow blippers are checking them out on a walk next weekend , so I resisted the temptation to visit them today and spoil the surprise. These are serious blippers, tripods and everything, so I'll let them report the next phase! I'll probably bring a book!

I read that two of the statues disappeared in the torrential rain this week, but apparently they tipped over as the force of the water increased, as they were designed to do. Clever huh? Apparently it is to stop them catching debris and blocking the river.
The worrying thing is that they 'believe' they are still there but currents have been too strong to check them out as yet.

The final statue looks out to sea down at Leith.
