Peace Factory
So, we just left the motorway on our way back home after a windy but sunny day goofing around at the beach. And I spotted this young guy holding a sign. "Montolieu" it said. Home for us, is in the middle of nowhere. Montolieu is just 3km from home, even further down the valley...so really in the middle of nowhere.
Lucky guy, I stopped. He looked very young and harmless. The kids where wondering what I was up to. Their first ever, my first in a LOOOONNNNNGGGG time: hitch-hiker.
We made a bit of room for him because he had a HUGE backpack plus what I thought was a guitar at first but given its size looked more like a contrabass. Or is it the Fiat 500 that makes anything look BIG :-)
- "So, where exactly are you heading in Montolieu?" I asked him; not that the village is super big, roughly 850 inhabitants.
- "The Peace Factory" he replied.
We made it to the "Peace Factory", at the very end of the village and bottom of a gorge. "Spooky" came naturally out of my mouth as I discovered the old building from the 50s.
Our hitch-hiker is going to stay one month within a community whose idea is to live together on the site and grow and learn together what it means and takes to create a peaceful environment - not only among humans, but also with the environment.
Good luck to him!!!
