Zip it up and start again

My wardrobe is severely in need of pruning, but I always find it difficult to decide what to keep and what is past its best. This jacket is ancient. I got it in my first year at university and wore it pretty much constantly for four or five years. It had been all over Scotland, up the Pyrenees, to Amsterdam, Rome, New York and Paris. But it has always been too big, the lining is now ripped and the whole thing is a bit shapeless and battered. It has survived so many previous clothing culls, but now that I've pulled it out and tried it on again, I don't think I can say goodbye to it just yet.
