Shepherd boy

Even the naked shepherd enjoys the fresh chill wind of our Sunday.

The bronze statue stands in front of the remaining buildings of the former Tampere felt factory which occupied a very central location by Tammerkoski rapids.

The artist is mr. Yrjö Liipola, and in 1947 it commemorated the 150 years of the textile and wool industry in the city. So it's only natural that the shepherd is accompanied by a ewe and lamb.

If you'd like to see a picture without vintage colours, the city pages have a link to another image of the statue.

By the way, I've blipped Yrjö Liipola's work before - here's a shipwreck memorial from the park overlooking Lake Näsijärvi.
