Who are you looking at?

A warm afternoon in the garden saw at least three Common Darter dragonflies buzzing around the pond - a male with a female laying eggs, and another male. I love photographing dragonflies... their wings are delicate works of art, while their bodies are often colourful and there's always the promise of some exciting action.

Common Darters are especially easy to photograph (most of the time); they have the habit of returning to the same perch after each 'dart' after small insect prey.

I like the slightly different angle on this one. It was tilting its head to look for food and you get a good look at its wings at the same time.
