Yogi Bear
Night 1 camping we were awoken by a bear outside our tent at 2am.
Night 2 camping and we were awoken by a bear outside our tent at 2.45am.
Neither of these times we saw the bear and judging by the reaction of our neighbours, it was probably just as well
Day 3 in Yosemite and by mid day I knew what my photo for the day would be.
We rented bikes and were cycling along when we saw a group of people gather and a couple of rangers on horseback. There was a bear in the apple tree having lunch.
It sat in the tree for 20 minutes before darting across the road narrowly avoiding being run over. It was chasing after a duck.
It spent the next 40 minutes in the field where I was eventually able to get this shot. According to the ranger it was a 4 year old bear. Most of the bears are tagged so they can work out where they like to hang out. There is a couple of persistent 14 year old bears who have avoided being tagged so far.
Hopefully this will be our only bear encounter of the day.
Oh and just in case you are wondering, the duck didn't survive.
