Poplar Hawkmoth

Hawkmoths are the largest moths found in the UK and are very obliging; they will quite happily be moved about (if you can find one) by simply putting a finger on their front legs. They will grip the finger and you can place them where you want i.e pose them. I had no need to pose this one however, he was perched up in typical resting pose on a bush in the open. The photograph was taken early morning but as the sun warms them they become lively and seek shade and are difficult to find and photograph.
