La Maya de Silio

Silio es un pequeño pueblo de Cantabria.
La maya es la unión de dos árboles que juntos llegan a superar los 30 metros de altura. El izado de la maya consiste en alzar dos troncos de roble previamente unidos con mecanismos tradicionales. Los hombres del pueblo, con su fuerza, van elevando poco a poco el tronco a base de fuerza. Todo un espectáculo. En la foto he puesto alguno de los momentos del izado desde el principio hasta el izado final.

The maya is the union of two trees that together can exceed 30 meters in heigth. The hoisting of the Maya is to raise two oak trunks previously joined with traditional mechanisms. The men of the village, specially the young people, must raise the Maya only with their strength. An authentic spectacle!
