This wood carving represents US reporter Stanley leaving David Livingstone to continue his missionary work in Africa.

It's a little plug for the David Livingstone centre in Blantyre which has been threatened by closure for financial reasons which are affecting the National Trust for Scotland.

I can thoroughly recommend it - very good exhibition indeed. Livingstone did huge amounts of work as a cartographer, but he also shone a light on the slave trade and publicised its inhumanity to Victorian Britain. Some more information at Undiscovered Scotland.
