Aftermath

Dead calm.

Pensive, time stretched out and slowed down. Cut the thick air with a knife.
The heat gets sucked out like a vacuum. The pressure drops and goosebumps prick your skin.

Dark clouds roll in like an ominous drum roll. And the sky splits open like a fault line. The trees begin to shake, thrash, and quake in fear. Butterflies flee clumsily for cover.

And the rains storm down from the open maw of the cloudy skies. Angry. Enigmatic and fleeting as a thought caught and then lost. Chimerical.

Broken branches, sodden leaves, and muddy puddles linger solemnly in the aftermath of the summer rain storm.
