Red Hook Grain Terminal
The abandoned Red Hook Grain Terminal towers over Red Hook. Its size, singularity on the skyline, and its ghostly appearance make it popular site for urban explorers. I of course, wasn't really aware that it was such a popular destination when I took this photo, but it's not a terrible surprise either. A couple years ago, I read an article about those urban explorers who venture into old, abandoned, dangerously unstable buildings for photography and the rush of adventure. The photographs generally feature rusty dead machines, floors with views of the floors below them, and in one particular case, a woman who, for whatever reason, likes to photograph herself naked amongst the urban ruins.
I was brave enough to hop a short fence that allowed closer inspection of the building, but not brave enough (and too hungry) to venture much beyond that. After running by it several times a week on my runs, figured I had to get it out of my system.
