Life turns sleeping
There's a bunch of odd traditions in Finland. and the celebration on National Sleepyhead Day is no exception. Traditionally the last person still sleeping in the house is dubbed the sleepyhead and awakened with water, either by being thrown into a lake or the sea, or by having water thrown on them. Earlier it was celebrated on June 27th. Since 1709 the day has been observed on July 27th.
The Sleep Union was organising events at Helsinki's main railway station to focus attention on sleep disorders. You know, how many complains about sleeplessness. She in the picture was one of the assistants of the great sleeper. The Sleepyhead slept horizontally all day long, so he cannot be with life turns.
