Heading to the past
There's a title that's trying to be too clever for its own good if I ever I saw one.
This was taken on the train heading into Wolverhampton towards my folks' house to collect the kids from their mini-break. As I've mentioned previously my parents still live in the only family home I remember (they moved there when I was 3) so I still think of here as 'home'. And tomorrow when we board the train to London I will also feel like I'm going 'home'.
It's been a while since I've arrived by train and so had this view of the town. It feels part history lesson, passing through our industrial heritage but tinged with sadness at the sheer amounts of deserted buildings and waste land. A wander through the quiet town centre wasn't any more cheering. There must be so few employment opportunities here. I don't think it's just rose-coloured glasses (and no, i'm not old enough to have lived during the industrial revolution!) but I'm sure it was more vibrant when I was a kid here.
Fortunately mom and dad's place remains comfortingly unchanged. Still home. And I'm lucky to have two of them.
Not a particularly cheery blip but I did like colour of this building and its windows. And I was still happy to arrive in Wolverhampton.
