Ando-san

This is the 88 year old DJ and proprietor of Jazz Five Club in Hiroshima. We'd had a pretty harrowing day looking round the memorials and museums of Hiroshima but made the effort to go out that night. I'd done some research before we left and had singled out this place as a must-visit. I'm so glad we did. Ando-san, his wife and daughter along with the dozen or so locals in the place treated us like visiting royalty. We were treated to donuts and free refills of our drinks every time our back was turned. Ando-san came out of the booth to take Emma onto the floor to the strains of Billy Idol's "White Wedding" before heading back into the booth to mix into some jazz-house. A bizarre but extremely entertaining night amongst incredibly welcoming strangers. Recommended if you can find it!
