Alasdair Gray

Well known Scottish writer and artist.

I went to a talk by him tonight, free at the main library, with a glass of wine thrown in. Although I had really never read his books I was intrigued by his popularity and really attracted by his description of himself as 'a fat, spectacled, balding, increasingly old Glasgow pedestrian' quite a contrast to the many literary accolades describing as a great polymath.

Well the chance paid off and he was :
Witty
Warm
Cuddly
Intelligent
Entertaining
Strong
Rambling
Evocative


..and I loved his poetry so will feel less intimidated as I was when I tried to read his famous book Lanark, 20 years ago and failed miserably, and will explore his work with the joy of his voice(s) ringing in my ears.
