grass tree - up close and personal

Young E went round the garden this afternoon photographing plants from curious angles.

He got some quite striking images and this is one of them.

This is a grass tree, sometimes known as a balga tree, or in less politically correct times, it was called a black boy tree.

It grows at the very slow rate of 1cm/year. This particular example is about 60cm high - a mere youngster, eh?
