What have I let myself in for?
Most of the time, I'm a fairly safe, sensible person with a sensible, responsible job and a sensible, dull house. But every now and then I get it into my head to do something a bit different. Like last year when I travelled across Russia, Siberia, Mongolia and part of China by train, on my own - drinking fermented mare's milk, pure Siberian vodka and galloping (i.e. holding on in fear) across the steppes on a not-altogether tame horse.
My latest "something a bit different" is that I've signed up to trek along the Inca trail in Peru to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support which is a charity that provides information, support and care for people living with cancer. I have to raise quite a large amount of money to do the trek, plus will be pushed out of my comfort zone as I'll be sharing a two-person tent with a complete stranger and walking in a mostly uphill manner for up to 12 hours a day at altitude.
It's not until next May, so it's ages off, but I'm excited already :-)
