THE RUST WITH THE SMOOTH

A walk at lunch time to the canal basin. There were only a handful of canal boats still moored, the majority of them had taken the opportunity to float away to more watery climes. The reservoirs which serve the Leeds to Liverpool canal are so drastically low that the water authorities have closed this stretch of the canal to boat movement, and they will use the time for repairs to the lock gates and other maintenance.

A great shame for the people who had hoped for a holiday along these waterways as they must be some of the most scenic. And who's going to feed the swans and ducks!
