coastal fen by morning

this morning at natural resources camp, i went with a group of kids just a short walk to a coastal fen along the lake huron shoreline. they leaned about the unique plants found in these low-nutrient wetlands. of course favorites were the great selection of carnivorous plants: pitcher plant, sundew, and bladderwort. but these kids were excited about anything. some exciting non-plant finds along the way included a grey northern water snake, water scorpions, leeches squirming in the water, and quite a few leopard frogs- like this one.

quite a splendid day it was!
