Day 7: Floating to Infinity

The day started with another early morning bird walk, this time with Giovanni, the manager of the lodge. We never could figure him out. Of all of the people we met, he was the most guarded and distracted. He veered from interest to boredom. And he creeped E out with some over zealous flirtation. But enough of that.

Our morning activity was a paddle down the Macal River with the current to Chaa Creek, another lodge. The plan was to have lunch there and explore for the afternoon, then get driven back to Black Rock.

The canoe ride was exceptional. What a gorgeous river. We didn't have to paddle, our guide steered and led us to giant green iguanas, gatherings of long-nose bats sleeping on the rocks and flocks of cormorants fishing in the river. There was just enough white water to get the adrenalin going. I only had one white-knuckle moment :)

Chaa Creek was one of those places you only see in magazines or "Lives of the Rich and Famous". It had an infinity pool - an honest to god pool with no ledge on one side, water warmed by the tropical sun and surrounded by trees covered in flowers. We spent our afternoon lounging. I actually birded from the pool, submerged to my neck looking at amazing birds through binoculars.

Ah, total contentment.
