Smoo Cave

backblip.

Walking East out of Durness you come to Smoo cave. The rocks in the area around Durness are primarily limestone which is quite unusual for the highlands. The geology in this area is so unusual it is a designated world Geopark. The limestone extends from Durness down towards Assynt and caves can be found at various points such as Smoo. There are also the famous bone caves at Inchnadamph where evidence of human habitation approximately 5000 years ago has been found.
