The new Acropolis Museum

The wonderfully designed new Acropolis Museum opened last year.

The entire top floor is devoted to the Parthenon and is exactly the same measurements. The intention is to show exactly how the friezes and statues were displayed in the original building.

The only thing they have missing is the Elgin marbles, of course.

There is an excellent film about the Parthenon (in English and Greek) which contains the following comment.....

"Lord Elgin looted the treasures and violently seized them." There is no mention of the risk from the Turkish troops from which they were saved or the risk to Lord Elgin's men.

The building is grand enough, safe enough and perfect to house them if they were to be returned. Somehow the comment might just set the cause back a little !!!
