torchlit origami boat sailing
As part of E's birthday party, the kids made origami paper boxes. We took them down to the stream by torchlight, popped a lit candle in each and then let them sail down the stream.
Only little sister C fell in, much to my surprise, and the boys loved it. They followed the wee soggy boxes much further down stream than I had anticipated, they then rescued them and did it all again.
We tried just floating the tea lights, and the tiny flames looked so pretty. It was very dark out there, which added to the adventure for these 8-9 years olds plus their dads.
Before heading back to the house, we all switched off our torches and looked at the wonderful array of stars. Young E was filled with wonder and offered up a prayer of thanks from his heart, but stopped short when he realised that he had done a very uncool thing in front of his friends.
What a beautiful boy he is.
