MISSION VALLEY
THIS AREA IS CALLED MISSION VALLEY. IN SAN DIIEGO'S EARLY HISTORY THERE WAS A SPANISH MISSION ABOUT A MILE EAST ALONG TNE SAN DIEGO RIVER AND ANOTHER ON PRESIDIO HILL ABOUT 5 MILES WEST OF HERE. IN THE 50'S THIS WAS STILL A QUITE RIVER VALLEY WITH TRUCK FARMS AND DAIRY FARMS, ONE FREEWAY AND ONE 2 LANE ROAD FRIARS ROAD RUNNING WEST TO EAST. ON THE WESTER END THERE WAS A GOLF COURSE AND SOME HOTELS. THE 1st SHOPPING CENTERS LARGER BUILDING HAD PUMPS IN THEIR BASEMENTS. THIS AREA HAS A HISTORY OF A MAJOR 100 YEARS FLOODING & WE ARE DUE FOR THE NEXT ONE. We also have periodic smaller flooding. The last major flooding was documented in a movie "Rainmaker" starring "Burt Lancaster". This valley gets more crowded every year. I miss the old valley.
