Bonnie Dundee

Sir Walter Scott renamed 'Bluidy Clavers' as he was known at the time - as Bonnie Dundee. He was a Jacobite and was killed at the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689. His grave and memorial are at St Bride's Kirk in the grounds of Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire.

Sir Walter Scott's poem has been made into a song and a regimental march. See first verse and chorus below.

To the Lords of Convention 'twas Clavers who spoke.
'Ere the King's crown shall fall there are crowns to be broke;
So let each Cavalier who loves honour and me,
Come follow the bonnet of Bonny Dundee.

Come fill up my cup, come fill up my can,'
Come saddle your horses, and call up your men;
Come open the West Port and let me gang free,
And it's room for the bonnets of Bonny Dundee!

The vault is still padlocked to keep the body in ...
