jokhang temple

First day of our trip to Tibet and Nepal. We arrived in Lhasa at 10am on a glorious sunny day, but limited our sightseeing so as to cope better with the altitude. Lhasa sits at 3600 metres above sea level, and the effect is literally dizzying- climbing just one flight of stairs leaves you short of breath. So we had a gentle wander in the old Tibetan quarter based around Barkhor Square and the temple that sits at the heart of it. Sadly most of Lhasa is not like this pretty old area- much of it is like any other Chinese city.
