Boat journey
A quick visit to a wee slate island off Luing this morning. A 10 min boat journey to the island of Belanthua an old slate island reputed to have lots of spooks on it. Look out in next week's Oban Times for more on this wee outing which was midgie central where we were bittine within an inch of our lives while trying to look happy for a photoshoot.
Ack to Oban late morning then onto perform ayet another gig in the Waterfront Bar Oban.
So far we have been to Islay, Tarbert, Kilmartn, Ardkinglass, Creagan Appin, Luing and tomorrow we head off to Mull.
These young folks are aged 15 to 17 and are fantastic musicians. All got either A's or 1's in their music and are a credit to their schools. Their behaviour I have to say so far has been impecable, they have done all that Calare and I have demanded from them and more. This is the last week of their two week tour which was funding by my organisation, Leader and other organisations with the exception of their own local council!
The only fly in their ointment were CalMac who would not let them play on the Isle of Mull ferry for a couple of trips and would not pay them a paltry wee sum of money! Shame on you CalMac, happy to have musicians so long as they don't have to pay for them!
The company that owns their piers and ferries were busy boasting two weeks ago how they supported Gaelic and were getting all siniage done bilingually (for which Bord na Gaelic or the Scottish Exec are probably funding them handsomly to do) Yet they could not see their way to giving a wee puckle of money to this talented group of musicians who would have probably raised CalMac's flagging image since one of its main ferries broke!
Have a good blipweek all
