The Pensioner

Eigg

The trip begins! Off to Eigg against a stiff westerly wind - we tacked to windward for a few hours - the coast behind got no further, the island ahead no nearer. Time to switch on the magic engine. Stuff this sailing. As we arrived at Eigg, the bliddy ferry appeared so we stood off until it docked and then we came alongside to get to the inner harbour. As we did, I realised at the last minute that its props were running to hold it against the pier and it was suddenly like crossing a fast flowing river - and it was a narrow channel - fekksakes! A sweaty moment as we accelerated through narrowly missing the perch (that's a pole sticking out the water - seen above) in the channel. Lesson learned!
Eigg is just fabulous - great wee cafe bar and grand boats sitting about. The breeze was increasing but fellow yachties declared it to be jolly boating weather so I felt embolded about the big trip in the morn. Mr N looked pensive.
