We want a rock

Today I met with friends old and mostly new to climb Helvellyn in the Lake District, via Striding Edge. Wooed by promises of stunning views over the Lakes as far as the eye can see, we organised a walk for this weekend in the height of summer.

Here was our view towards the end of Striding Edge - the mist had cleared just enough to take this photo, but the experience and camaraderie made up for any disappointment in the British weather.

And no complaints either about the boozy barbecue that followed later that evening, as we camped overnight - in my case for the first time in very many years. And I have survived - stiff limbed and tired, but having enjoyed a great weekend
