Public Telephones
Due to the scaffolding, I had to take a different route to my office and noticed a small sign pointing to public telephones. With zahrashah's blip of the deserted red post box still in head, I knew this would be today's blip.
Even though these ones aren't bad (although given their location, I was a bit disappointed to go in and find that they weren't made of Bakelite ;-) they don't quite have the same character as a post box, but it reminded me how much things have developed and in the 5 years I've worked in this building, I don't remember seeing anyone ever use them. And why would they when the building has excellent wifi connectivity and everyone has a mobile.
I have a love/hate relationship with mobiles. I don't like having to take evasive action to avoid collisions with people who are texting when walking, I hate having to listen to other people's conversations on buses and trains and don't get me started on people who use mobiles when driving.... And I don't like the fact that it's harder to disconnect from the world.
Having said all that, they have their uses and when I found myself at Nantwich train station the other day, 1.5hrs away from the next train, my trusty iPhone came to the rescue by finding me the number of a local taxi firm :-)
