The story behind a stone left in the woods
I went exploring Leigh Woods in Bristol for the first time today and stumbled across this carved stone just haphazardly lying around in the middle of the forest.
I assumed it must be a line from some worthy poem about nature and whatnot and Googled it when I got home in order to do a proper caption.
And it turns out the story behind the stone is much more impressive.
This is one of three stones scattered across the world bearing the inscription "And stones moved silently across the world". An artist called Alyson Hallett had all three stones engraved with this message and left this slate one in Bristol.
The second, a 13kg piece of white limestone, she put in her suitcase and took to a retreat centre in Massachusetts, USA.
The third was a 12kg piece of grey limestone, which, again, she popped in a suitcase and took to a park at Kanahooka Point in Australia.
I bet she had fun going through customs.
Still, it impressed me. Now I quite fancy going to find the other two.
