place: side of an unidentified building, Granville Island (CAN)
mood: harmonious

The folds in the wavy aluminum panelling simultaneously reflects sunlight and casts shadow, thus lightening and darkening the turquoise in an alternating stripe pattern. Lights and darks also appear where the shadow of the letter 'A' falls on the huge metal sheet, desaturating the splotchy reddish-brown hue to a dark reddish-violet in some areas, and blue-dark violent in others.

This photograph features colours that are in harmony with each other, because they are situated next to each other on the colour wheel. The turquoise of the aluminum siding is a lightened, or less saturated version of the Tertiary Green-Blue and it is neighbours with the Tertiary Blue-Dark Violet of the shadow that falls on the scoured metal mounting board, as well as with the lighter variation of Primary Blue coming from the sky as it reflects off of the shiny cut-out letter's polished metal surface.

So, how do we make aluminum siding less boring and industrial? Add a strong punch of colour. Throwing on an alphabet letter is optional.

And as if to tease the eye, there is just a slight presence of red in the form of lettering on a cropped 'No Parking Zone' sign to the far left of the picture that brings out and enhances the complement green in the aqua-coloured walls.

Hmmm... Granville Island sure loves to construct their buildings with aluminum siding; it must be a fire-prone magnet.
