David Bowie Statue...not
Standing in a main pedestrian walkway of Lagos, Algarve, Portugal, this is a statue of the boy-king, Sebastião, who precipitated the demise of the Aviz dynasty in the 16th century by sailing from Lagos to a disastrous defeat in Morocco. The statue is the subject of many a rude remark, (eg looks like David Bowie ....ground control to Major Tom...?! etc etc ) but is actually the work of the highly-respected Portuguese sculptor, João Cutileiro.
Most evenings street artists put on a show on all sides of the base of the statue, be it mime, dance, theatre...both remarkable and memorable
