Youghigheny River

I took this photo from a bridge in Ohiopyle State Park, about 60 miles southeasst of Pittsburgh, Pa. The river includes many rapids and is a favorite of whitewater rafters. The Allegheny Mountains are among the oldest in the world - I'm told they were once as high as the Himmalayas. They still offer some rugged and wonderful hiking opportunities. Forests of beech, maple, poplar, birch, oak and other trees cover them. Otters, minks, ospreys, black bears and many other wild critters make their homes here. It's also wild fungi season in southwestern Pennsylvania - mushrooms of all sizes, shapes and colors filled the woods!
