Escobaria echinus

Escobaira echinus is flowering for the second time this summer. I received this from Panayoti Kelaidis who has grown it for years. It seems to respond to summer rain showers, we had two small downpours this week and perhaps it was just enough water to encourage some latent buds into flower, or maybe it just decided to bloom again on its own? Anyhow some color is welcome in the garden after a rather hot and dry July and early August.
