Open day at MCS

The Mountain Cambridge School had it's annual 'Open Day' today, in order to introduce the school and all it's facilities to intended new students for 2011. It was a huge success and an impressive number of new students turned up and decided to enroll for next year!

HAWS(Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society) were invited to attend. They usually have stalls with donated clothing, refreshments, secondhand books, handmade beadwork etc. to assist them financially because they are totally dependant on donations, they don't receive any aid from government.

They presented a show with an awesome staffordshire terrier, another breathtaking dance performance by the same staffie, a show with a 'HAWS pony', rescued from unthinkable circumstances, almost dead and severely neglected! He was adopted from the HAWS shelter by a very gentle, animal loving woman, who trained him with great patience and loving care, to do brilliant things. Today was the first time he performed for an audience!! Amazing what she's achieved with him! He gained weight, he is confident, intelligent and healthy, and she taught him to pick up his toys with his teeth and put them into a box and all sorts of obedience excercises, and he even gave us a curtsy at the end of his show!

There were all sorts of other shows, a trainer showed how he trains pets to be obedient and do tricks! Yhere were even pony rides for the little ones.

From 12:00 to 13:00 they allowed the kids to enter their dogs into a competition, there were three categories: Best dressed dog, best turned out dog and most obedient dog. It was great fun, they even had HAWS dogs in the competition as well, the school kids were alowed to prepare them and then walk them for the competition, and they were of course available for adoption!! ;-)
